Homemade Peppermint Patties

Homemade Peppermint Patties Recipe

Ingredients:

3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint extract

4 cups confectioners’ sugar (powdered sugar)

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or chocolate bars, chopped)

1 tablespoon vegetable shortening (optional, for smoother chocolate coating)

Sea salt flakes (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Peppermint Filling:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and peppermint extract. Mix well until smooth.

Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, one cup at a time. Use a wooden spoon or your hands to knead the mixture until a firm but pliable dough forms. It should not be sticky. If it is too soft, add a little more confectioners’ sugar.

2. Shape the Patties:

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Take small portions of the peppermint dough (about 1 tablespoon each) and roll them into balls. Flatten each ball gently to form a disc, approximately 1/4 inch thick.

Place the discs on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they do not touch. Once all the patties are shaped, transfer the tray to the freezer and let them chill for at least 30 minutes.

3. Melt the Chocolate:

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and vegetable shortening (if using). Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring after each, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth. Alternatively, melt the chocolate in a double boiler over low heat.

4. Coat the Peppermint Patties:

Remove the chilled peppermint discs from the freezer. Using a fork, dip each patty into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated. Tap the fork gently against the side of the bowl to remove any excess chocolate.

Place the coated patties back on the parchment-lined baking sheet. If desired, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt flakes on top of each patty before the chocolate sets.

5. Set the Chocolate:

Allow the chocolate coating to harden. You can let them set at room temperature or speed up the process by placing the tray in the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes.

6. Serve and Store:

Once the chocolate is fully set, your homemade peppermint patties are ready to enjoy! Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for longer storag
